100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum by Cathy Duffy (Book Review)

This article was originally published in print in my Homeschool Tips column in Parent News magazine…

I’m willing to go on record by saying that one of the most difficult aspects of homeschooling is choosing the right curriculum. I’m saying that because I hear it endlessly when talking to other homeschool parents and it has been one of the hardest parts for my own family. We started out with a curriculum that seemed a lot like regular school, and it just didn’t work for us. After that we experimented a lot with various curriculums with even a bit of unschooling thrown in.

We were finally recommended a book called 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum by Cathy Duffy that helped us tremendously. The book breaks down the most popular homeschool curriculums by both learning and teaching style and then goes further by telling you even more about them. This will allow you to choose a curriculum that not only makes learning more enjoyable for the kids, but also more fun to teach. I know it seems like a dream…making school fun for both parent and child…but it isn’t.

Using this book revolutionized how we do our schooling. If you’re in a spot where you just don’t know what to teach or still trying to wade through the mass of materials out there, maybe it can help. I’d suggest giving it a try.
